A Day Inside VidCon Anaheim: What It's Really Like as a Creator

If you’ve never been to VidCon before, imagine walking into a place where YouTube comes to life.

Everywhere you look, there’s someone filming. Creators are catching up with friends they haven’t seen in months. Brands are showing off new products. Fans are hoping to meet their favorite YouTubers.

And somehow, everyone seems to know exactly where they’re going.

Except us.

The Day Started With Pure Chaos

We left our hotel feeling pretty confident.

Coffee? Check. Camera batteries? Check. Outfits finally figured out after way too many wardrobe changes? Eventually… check.

The plan was simple: get to VidCon, explore everything, meet new people, complete a few ridiculous challenges. Easy. Or so we thought.

The only problem? Apparently everyone else had the exact same idea.

Getting into VidCon turned into its own adventure. Between security, different entrances, and figuring out where creators were actually supposed to check in, it took a while before we were officially inside. It definitely wasn’t the glamorous Hollywood entrance you might imagine — but honestly, that’s part of what makes events like this feel real.

So… We Made Up a Game

Standing around waiting isn’t exactly our specialty.

Whenever we’re together, somebody inevitably says the words: “You know what would be funny?” And that’s usually how trouble starts.

This time, it started with the Wheel of Steve. Steve is Bella’s AI-generated punishment wheel. Lose a challenge? Steve decides your fate. Let’s just say Steve isn’t known for being merciful.

Challenge #1: Become Background Characters

Our first challenge sounded surprisingly difficult: see how many creators we could accidentally appear near without interrupting them or making things awkward.

Turns out creators move fast. Really fast. One second they’re walking through the convention. The next they’re surrounded by people or heading to another panel. We quickly realized this challenge wasn’t going to be nearly as easy as we thought.

What VidCon Is Actually Like

Here’s something we didn’t expect: VidCon feels a lot like the first week at a new school.

Everyone naturally has their groups. Gaming creators. Beauty creators. Animators. Cosplayers. Podcast hosts. Industry professionals. Brands. Everyone belongs somewhere.

At first it can feel a little intimidating walking up to people you don’t know. But once you actually start talking, you realize almost everyone is incredibly friendly.

Some of Our Favorite Moments Never Made the Video

One thing we intentionally didn’t do was film every conversation. Could we have? Probably. But not every interaction needs a camera.

Some of the best parts of VidCon were simply getting to meet other creators, hearing their stories, talking about YouTube, and making genuine connections. Those moments are hard to capture on video, but they’re some of the biggest reasons creators keep coming back every year.

Every Booth Has Something Going On

If you’ve never been to VidCon, imagine hundreds of booths packed into one giant convention center.

One booth is giving away skincare. The next has gaming demos. Another has creators signing autographs. Then you turn the corner and there’s a football game. Or a basketball challenge. Or a livestream setup. Or a giant display you’ve somehow only ever seen online.

You could honestly spend an entire day just exploring the expo floor and still not see everything.

Then We Accidentally Created Our Favorite Challenge

Halfway through the day, we decided to change things up. Instead of seeing how many creators we could spot, we challenged each other to see who could give the most genuine compliments.

A cool pair of shoes? Say something. Awesome hair color? Tell them. Love someone’s outfit? Don’t keep it to yourself.

It sounded simple. It turned out to be one of the most fun parts of the entire day.

Amazing What One Compliment Can Do

At first, it felt a little awkward. Walking up to complete strangers isn’t something most people do every day.

But almost every single person smiled. Some laughed. Others started conversations. A few complimented us back. By the end of the challenge, we weren’t even thinking about who was winning anymore. We were just enjoying making people smile.

Honestly, the internet could use a little more of that.

Steve Eventually Got His Victim

Of course, someone had to lose. Which meant someone had to spin the Wheel of Steve.

The punishment? Every time another person walked by, freeze like a statue. Not once. Not twice. Every. Single. Time.

Imagine trying to walk through one of the busiest creator conventions in the world while randomly posing like a museum exhibit every few seconds. Let’s just say people definitely noticed.

The Best Part Wasn’t What We Expected

Before VidCon, we thought our favorite part would be meeting famous creators. Or seeing the biggest booths. Or collecting free stuff.

Those things were fun. But they weren’t what stood out most.

It was the conversations. Meeting people who love creating as much as we do. Hearing everyone’s different journey. Watching complete strangers encourage each other. That’s the part we’ll remember years from now.

Ending the Day the Only Way We Know How

After hours of walking, filming, laughing, and competing, we were exhausted. Normal families probably would’ve called it a night.

We turned dinner into another competition. Who could drink the most glasses of water?

We genuinely don’t know why everything in our family becomes a challenge. At this point, it’s probably incurable.

Is VidCon Worth Going To?

Absolutely. Whether you’re a fan hoping to meet your favorite creators, someone dreaming of starting a YouTube channel, or already creating videos yourself, VidCon is unlike anything else.

You don’t just see the creator community. You become part of it.

Yes, it’s busy. Yes, your feet will hurt. Yes, you’ll probably wish you packed more snacks. But you’ll leave inspired. And that’s what makes it special.

Our Biggest Adventure Was Still Ahead

As incredible as this day was, it wasn’t even our biggest moment at VidCon.

The next morning, we were hosting our own fan meet-and-greet. We had no idea how many people would show up. No idea what was about to happen.

And looking back, it became one of our favorite memories from the entire trip.
