Have You Ever Wanted to Make a Volcano Eruption?
Today the Wild Adventure Girls are going to show you how to make not just any Volcano Eruption…they are going to show you how to make a “Underwater Volcano Eruption” with this super fun science experiment for kids!
What is an Underwater Volcano? Underwater Volcanoes are also known as “Submarine Volcanoes.” These Volcanoes are located under water and develop from cracks or holes in the earth's undersea surface. It has been estimated that there may be more than 10,000 volcanoes in the Pacific Ocean alone!
Cool! So, How Do I Make It?
This is where the explosive fun begins! It’s time to mix a bit of science with volcano erupting awesomeness. To make your own Underwater Volcano Eruption we will need a few things...
Let's get started with what you need for your own “Volcano Eruption Experiment”!!
1. Large Cylinder Glass Vase.
2. Small Cylinder Glass Vase (for the sizes, you just need the smaller vase to fit into the large vase).
3. Volcano Colored Food Coloring.
4. Hot and Cold Water.
5. Small Rocks as Weights.
6. A Miniature Volcano for Fun.
Now, let's get started! The first thing we are going to do is fill our large cylinder vase, just a little over halfway with icy cold water. Next, we will need to get our smaller vase ready to make the ultimate underwater eruption. To do this, we will need fill the bottom of our vase with weights. This is going to help your vase sink to the bottom of our large vase. Then for fun, we are going add a miniature volcano.
Ready to make some volcano magic? We
thought you would be! Now that our miniature volcano is resting
nicely at the bottom of our vase, it’s time to add some lava colored food coloring. We are going to add red and yellow. However, if there is a color you would like to use, feel free to go wild and use the color of your choice. Once your food coloring is added, we
will need to add some hot water. For this step, you may need to get your parents help because the glass vase will become hot!
Are you ready for an epic eruption? Now that we have everything ready to go, you will need to place your hot water vase into your cold-water vase and watch a super fun “Underwater Volcano Eruption!”
Cool! So How Does this Experiment Work?
Great question! The “underwater volcano” is created because hot water rises and cold-water sinks. When we place our lava colored hot water vase into the cold water, we leave the these two forces of water no other choice but for the hot water to erupt to the top of the vase and the cold water to sink to the bottom…causing a super cool eruption!
So now that you know how it works, join in on the fun at home and laugh along while The Wild Adventure Girls create Volcano Eruption epicness!
Will Angelina, Scarlett and Annabella be blasted away by their volcano experiment never be seen again? Tune is to see what happens when The Wild Adventure girls explore the world of science and volcanoes!
