WANNA MAKE A MASSIVE VOLCANO ERUPTION?!!
Get ready and watch The Wild Adventure Girls as they take their trademark sense of fun and adventure to the world of science with their fun “Volcano
Eruption Episode!” (This volcano eruption will blow you away!) You will get to see science in action as you watch our volcano erupt again, again
and again! The Wild Adventure Girls will show you step by step how to make your own “Volcano Eruption,” with this super fun science experiment for kids.
So how does this experiment work? Great question! Before we tell you how it works, we want to dive deep down, we mean deep deep down, into the center of the earth and find out how real "Volcano Eruptions" take place.
What Is A Volcano Eruption?
A volcano is an opening in the earth's crust through which lava, volcanic ash, and gases escape. Beneath a volcano, liquid magma containing dissolved gases rises through cracks in the Earth's crust. When pressure builds up, explosive eruptions occur causing a violent and deadly blast that can send unsuspecting people and animals running for their lives and can be heard from thousands of miles away!! But do not worry; this is not the type of Volcano Eruption we will be creating today!
Here's what you'll need to make a Volcano 'Eruption!!!'
- In our episode, we used a small volcano. However, a vase and a pan underneath to contain the awesome explosion will work just as well!
- About a cup of hydrogen peroxide.
- 1 TBSP of Potassium Iodide mixed with ¼ cup distilled water.
- Food coloring to make your eruption look awesome!
- Dish Soap.
- Safety goggles and protective gloves.
- A camera to take pictures of your awesome explosion! (tag us #WildAdventureSquad)
Once you have your ingredients ready YOU (yes you!) get to participate right along with us while we create one of our favorite science experiments for kids! So, why does the Volcano “Erupt”? It’s science! When the hydrogen peroxide meets your catalyst (potassium iodide mixture), within a blink of an eye it starts breaking down into water and oxygen. Oxygen is a gas and therefore wants to escape the liquid. The dish soap that you added to your hydrogen peroxide traps the gas bubbles, forming a foam.
It is what we call a major and fun ‘’chemical reaction.” Just like a real volcano eruption, the foam needs some where to go, so it makes a really BIG ERUPTION!
Now that you know how this science experiment works, have fun, sit back and get ready to watch The Wild Adventure Girls show you how to make, an “Ultimate Volcano Eruption!”
